Bridges Health is hosting an important two-day workshop Jan. 23-24 at the Swift Current Inn.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just like physical first aid is provided until medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate support is found or until the crisis is resolved.
MHFA is a 12-hour (2-day) workshop that was developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. The workshop provides participants with the skills to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and provides crisis and first aid skills for substance overdose, suicidal behavior, panic attacks, acute stress reactions and psychotic episodes. Since Bridges Health began offering the MHFA workshop in November 2016, they've certified more than 550 participants throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A common theme from past participants is that the workshop provides practical tools and resources that can be applied immediately.
