The Swift Current United Way's 3rd annual Foundation of Hope Gala raised $75,000 in support of nine non-profit community programs.

The elegant evening of dining and dancing took place at the Living Sky Casino Event Centre, Nov. 4. Tickets to the event were sold out more than a month ago and 230 people attended the gala. The nine grant recipients were recognized during a presentation ceremony when they received benefactor awards. This year's gala raised awareness about domestic violence and the work done by Southwest Crisis Services to provide support to individuals dealing with abuse. Ang's Story, a video about the courage, resilience and survival of a woman in an abusive relationship, was launched at the gala. The funds raised at the gala will benefit the following organizations and projects: Canadian Red Cross – training and capacity building of local volunteers; Canadian Mental Health Association – meal program and education, life skills and social/recreational program; Canadian National Institute for the Blind – post vision loss rehabilitation therapy program; SaskAbilities – community inclusion program; Southwest Crisis Services – community outreach program; Southwest Homes – vocational transportation program and additional supports program; Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre – family literacy program and child-minding program; Swift Current Community Youth Initiative (The Center) – Wednesday hot meal program for youth; United Way Active Play – after school program.
