United Way strives to meet our community needs through various programs, including the Day of Caring ® – a week-long initiative that is focused around working as a community to meet the needs of local non-profit organizations. Thanks to the success of this initiative over the past five years, United Way will be hosting Day of Caring ® year-round.

Businesses will now have the option to volunteer their time to help local non-profits complete projects at various times throughout the year. Businesses that volunteer will have the benefit of “flex-commitment”, meaning they can choose the project that appeals to their group and schedules. Each business that registers will be required to submit one team captain that will receive a monthly Day of Caring ® project list, and work to facilitate volunteers. All volunteers must be Safe Place Certified. United Way can assist the organization in receiving group training.
United Way Swift Current has already received commitment from Stark & Marsh, MNP, Innovation Credit Union, Bank of Montreal, Pharmasave, City of Swift Current, Farm Credit Canada and Saskatchewan Abilities Council.
“Volunteerism is a vital component of any community. Day of Caring ® plays a major role in helping community agencies, while building relationship and instilling the importance of giving back our time to help others.” Stacey Schwartz, Executive Director of Swift Current United Way commented. “We’re so thankful for the many generous businesses in our community that have made Day of Caring ® such a success and we look forward to working with them and many others year-round.”
New businesses can get involved by visiting to fill out a team registration form. The deadline to register is September 29, 2017. All forms can be sent to Stacey at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Non-profits that would like assistance on projects can also get involved by visiting and filling out a monthly project form. Each project must have a project coordinator that will work with the Team Captain from the paired business.
Volunteer Projects can include ongoing weekly programs (ex. meal programs, tutoring, etc.) and one time needs (ex. bathroom make over). Preference will be given to projects that correspond with our 3 focus areas: From Poverty to Possibility; Healthy People, Strong Community; and All That Kids Can Be.
