The Cypress Health Region has declared an outbreak status at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre.

The status was declared during the afternoon of April 12 after four residents and six staff members were identified as having signs and symptoms of an enteric illness. An enteric illness is similar to the stomach flu. A specific virus has not been identified at this time.

Visitation to the Gull Lake Special Care Centre will be restricted to the public until further notice to help the region contain the illness. The outbreak status likely won't be lifted until the facility is asymptomatic for 72 hours.

An outbreak management team will be taking extra infection control measures, including enhanced cleaning and monitoring symptoms, in an attempt to prevent the spread of the illness to other residents and staff members.

Updates on the status of the Gull Lake Special Care Centre will be available at www.cypresshealth.ca or by calling 1-888-461-7443.
