The City of Swift Current has identified two areas along the Swift Current Creek where above average spring flooding has caused significant erosion or alteration to the creek banks.

At its meeting on Nov. 28, Council approved a recommendation by Recreation and Parks Director Dean Robson to pre-approve $99,858 from the 2012 Recreation and Parks budget for channel bank erosion repairs by consulting and engineering services company GENIVAR.

“Though a number of areas were affected, two specific areas sustained bank damage that has been identified by the Recreation and Parks and Engineering departments as areas that should be addressed,” Robson said.

These areas are the Chinook Golf Course bank area next to the number seven tee-off box and an area adjacent to the Chinook Parkway south of Riverside Park.

“Other bank areas that received partial or substantial bank damage will continue to be monitored in the instance that they also may require future repairs,” Robson told councillors.

In reply to a question from Councillor Denis Perrault, Robson indicated that repair work was done recently to a portion of the creek bank on the South Service Road near the Honda dealership.

“That was work that was recognized and identified by the Engineering Department,” he explained. “We completed that work.”
