Swift Current

The City of Swift Current today announced that there was an overwhelming response from the public to acquire free sandbags that were inventoried at the Rec Centre.

Mac Forster, Director of Engineering stated “the entire inventory of sandbags at the Rec Centre has been picked up by the public of the City Swift Current and region. As there is still a demand for more to be used for yard landscaping, flower pots, sandboxes as well as by homes in the southwest area of the province that remain at risk of flooding, we are pleased to offer the sandbags located along the creek at the south end of 14th Avenue SE.”

For those who wish to acquire these sandbags, the City is requesting that all vehicles stay on the gravel roadways and off of any private property or grass areas while loading takes place.

Due to roadway flood damage resulting in limited access, the sandbags in the 11th Avenue SE area are not available to the public at this time.

The City of Swift Current also wishes to advise the public that portions of the flood protective aqua dams have now been taken down. The remaining portable devices located along the creek in the Riverdene, Ashley Park and Elmwood areas will be removed within the upcoming week. These devices require special equipment for removal which the supplier has and should be arriving in the city next week.
