The preliminary inquiry of a sexual assault case was delayed by intermittent power outages in Swift Current May 4.

Four witnesses — including one RCMP member — were scheduled to testify before the court.

A 40-year-old man was charged in connection to a sexual assault of a minor on Aug. 3, 2010. He has been in custody since Oct. 18, 2010.

The female victim was 17 years old at the time of the alleged incident.

Counsel was appointed to cross-examine the complainant on behalf of the defence, as the accused had previously elected to represent himself in the case.

An adjournment was made to June 16, and he was remanded into custody.

Evidence and the identity of the victim remain protected under a publication ban.
