Airdrie RCMP have arrested a 41-year-old male from Kindersley, Sask. for uttering threats against a person and forcible confinement while driving through the Airdrie area.

On Thursday, December 21 at approximately 7:45pm, Airdrie RCMP received a call with regards to a male suspect making threats towards a female in a moving vehicle. The threats were very severe making the call high risk in nature.

Airdrie RCMP located the vehicle moving eastbound in the Beiseker area and began to follow. Additional assistance was received from Beiseker, Drumheller, and Three Hills Detachments as the suspect vehicle moved further East. RCMP Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team were also notified and deployed. A high risk vehicle stop plan was put into place. Initially, the suspect did not stop for police when emergency lights and siren were activated. However, a spike belt, pre-deployed in a specific position, was successful in immobilizing the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and the suspect inside the vehicle was arrested by RCMP members on scene without incident. The female victim inside the car was escorted to safety. No injuries were sustained by either party.

"Over the last several months, our members have really been focussing on training and practising high risk vehicle interventions", said Airdrie Detachment Commander Inspector Kimberley Pasloske, "It is this preparation and the tactical decisions that the members made that led directly to the successful apprehension of this high risk offender and two others this past weekend".

This specific matter is still actively under investigation. Charges are pending and due to the circumstances of the investigation, no further details will be provided.

Anyone who has information on this crime is asked to call the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7267.
