This year, the University of Regina is celebrating 40 years of partnership with Saskatchewan’s regional colleges across the province.

The University is proud to help provide educational opportunities outside of Saskatchewan’s major urban areas for students who want to pursue post-secondary education and training in smaller centres.
“This is an opportunity to expand programming and expand the menu of offerings for local students in the Swift Current region, where there’s a lot of demand for university training. Our partnership allows people to get a university degree in their own region. It’s a good model. It is a strong model,” said President and CEO of Great Plains College, David Keast. “For some students, to do a couple of years of university at home saves money and offers students the opportunity to study in a smaller classroom context. It is a close to home environment and a well tested model of enrollment growth for us and for the University.”
Annually, these colleges teach more than 11,200 full-time and part-time students in skills training, apprenticeships, university courses, and basic education. Regional colleges play an importantrole in meeting the labour demands of a growing and diversifying province.
Just as the University of Regina has seen increased enrolments in international and Aboriginal students, so have the regional colleges.
“I would like thank each of the Regional Colleges for our 40-year partnership,” said University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vianne Timmons. “We look forward to continuing our successes by providing quality, accessible post-secondary education to students across Saskatchewan.”
Timmons recently met with Regional prairie college presidents to discuss current and potential partnerships and looks forward to collaboratively working and enhancing partnerships in the near future.
