Southwest Alberta
On Friday morning at about 11:10 a.m., Crowsnest Pass RCMP responded to a call of a helicopter crash at The Gap provincial forestry fire base along Highway 40, approximately 70 kilometres north of Coleman.

The helicopter was located in a field on the east side of Highway 40 across form the forestry base. Information obtained at the scene indicates the helicopter experienced a mechanical failure during a planned landing.

The pilot was unable to maintain control and over-shot the designated landing pad, setting down in an adjacent field. The uncontrolled landing caused the helicopter to come to rest on its right (passenger) side, causing extensive damage.

The pilot and four Alberta Forestry employees were transported to the Crowsnest Pass hospital as a precautionary measure and in following company policy. All were examined and released. Only minor injuries were sustained.

The helicopter is owned by Mustang Helicopters out of Blackfalds, Alta.

Transportation Safety Board and Occupational Health and Safety have been contacted and are expected to conduct a full investigation into the crash.
