Officials with Prairie Rose School Division (PRSD) are excited to share their own successes in rural education at a spring symposium.

The Rural Futures, second annual rural education symposium is set to take place March 3-5 in Canmore, Alta.
The event was held in Red Deer last year and attracted about 300 educators. Organizers are anticipating similar numbers in the spring.
“It’s an important event for the province,” Superintendent Doug Nicholls, told trustees at the Dec. 11 regular board meeting. “It’s a chance to highlight the successes and challenges for rural schools.”
Six stakeholders groups have partnered to offer the event including the Association of School Business Officials of Alberta, Alberta School Boards Association, Alberta Government, the Alberta Teachers’ Association, Alberta School Councils’ Association and the College of Alberta School Superintendents.
Nicholls has played a lead role in helping organize the event, along with Angela Baron, PRSD’s communication person, who is handling updating the website (http://www.albertaruraleducation.ca).
Nicholls said the symposium will likely rotate around the province each year.
“Innovation and creativity in rural schools is the theme of the event.”
