At approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, Helen Redford, Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Alison Redford’s mother, passed away.

Helen Redford (nee Anderson) was 71 years old. Her daughters Alison and Lynn, were at her side. Melody is in Malaysia teaching English and will return as soon as possible.

“This is obviously a very difficult time for Alison and our thoughts are with her and her family,” said campaign strategist Stephen Carter. “Alison will take some time to mourn with her family, while her campaign for Premier continues.”

“Alison would like to thank all of the volunteers from her campaign and the campaigns of Gary Mar and Doug Horner for their support. The outpouring from Albertans from every area in the province has been heartwarming.”

Redford will participate in Wednesday’s debate on Global television, 770 CHQR but will have no other public events on Wednesday or Thursday. The campaign schedule for Friday will be determined in the coming days.
