A state of local emergency continues due to grass fires in the County of Lethbridge west of the City of Lethbridge and on the Blood Reserve.

While the fires are now contained and under control, firefighters are still dealing with fires in the coulees and there is continued concern about hazards such as downed power lines.
Evacuated areas include Sunset Acres and residences in the river bottom areas. Residents in Mountain Meadows are on evacuation alert.
Police continue their presence in the area and fire crews continue to monitor.  Wildfire teams from Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) are arriving later today to deal with remaining “hot spots”.  The evacuation order will not be lifted until conditions are safe.  Residents are not to return to their properties until they are advised by the County of Lethbridge.
Further, FortisAlberta will be assessing the situation and dealing with downed power lines after daybreak.  Reeve Lorne Hickey said, “We are waiting for the City Fire Department and Fortis to give us the all-clear before we allow residents back in.  Ensuring the safety of our residents is our number one concern at this point.”
The reception centre at the Fritz Sick Centre in Lethbridge has been closed since evacuated residents have found temporary shelter elsewhere.
At this time, there are no reports of homes damaged by fire or personal injuries.  A number of agricultural structures and corrals have been damaged.
The cause of the fires is under investigation.
