On June 15, the APEX team held their first pitch competition, the “APEX Business Challenge” which took place at the Medicine Hat College in the Eresman Theatre.

The APEX Business Challenge provided community entrepreneurs and innovators working with APEX Alberta the opportunity to start-up or expand a business, create a new product/invention or purchase an existing business through a business plan and public pitch competition.
“In this Dragon’s Den-Style competition we invited APEX clients to “Pitch” their business idea to a panel of experienced judges,” describes Mark Keller, director of college advancement at the Medicine Hat College.
Five entrepreneurs stepped up to the challenge for their chance to win up to $10,000 in Startup funding plus up to $10,000 in valuable business services and mentorship.
“The men and women who lead small medium size businesses make a critical contribution to our economy. Its great to see the support provided to these leaders and risk takers as they look to future business success.  JMH & Co. deserves special thanks for their direct contributions,” says Keller.
Roxanne Doerksen, environmental reclamation technician student and owner of T.R.A.D. Worm Industries, a vermiculture composting business, received the top prize of $10,000 as well as People’s Choice Award.
Christina Parker of Wicked Rose Kombucha, a tangy bubbly, nutrient dense beverage that helps replenish the digestive system, received $5,000 of the prize money.
Beth Lewis, business student and founder of Rustic Rose, an online western-themed jewelry and apparel company, was awarded $4,200 off the prize money.
Matt Van der Sloot of E-Z Details, a mobile auto detailing service, received $750 for Best Pitch.
APEX would like to thank JMH & Co. for their continued support. They provided coaching, mentorship and cash awards and prizes for the pitchers.
