Oyen RCMP have charged a local man with child pornography offences following a joint investigation with Medicine Hat ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.

On February 28, Oyen RCMP were contacted by a parent of a young female who had located concerning messages between her daughter and an adult male on her daughter’s cell phone. Oyen RCMP began an investigation with the assistance of the Medicine Hat ICE unit.

On March 5, members of the ICE unit and Oyen RCMP arrested an 18 year-old man and executed a search warrant at his Oyen residence. During the search, a number of electronic devices were seized; child pornography images were found during a forensic preview. ICE technicians will conduct a complete forensic examination of the devices.

He has been remanded into custody and faces charges of:

·        luring a child (x2);
·        possession of child pornography;
·        accessing child pornography;
·        distributing child pornography; and
·        failing to comply with a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on March 20.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact the Oyen RCMP 403-664-3505. Anyone who has been a victim of this or any child exploitation offense is encouraged to contact their local police or cybertip.ca.
