Organizations that are planning a new (or existing) event for the Newell region may be able to tap into some funding to help with the costs, but have to get their applications in before Feb. 28 to be eligible.

Jaime McIntosh, marketing specialist and executive director for the Newell Regional Tourism Association (NRTA), said that they are hoping new events will bring more people into the area with their Tourism Development Fund.
"The funding is designed to offer funds for organizations holding new events," said McIntosh. "Our goal is to increase the number of events in the region and to attract more people to the area."
NRTA has $22,500 to be allocated. There is no matching grant amount, but rather, the grant is a means to help new events get going.
"There is no minimum or maximum, but in the past most have been in the $500 to $2,000 range. We want to try to help as many organizations as we can," she said, adding that organizations are encouraged to get their applications in. "Get your application in. We have money to give and we want to give it where we can.”
Funding is available for organizations and groups in the Newell region, which includes the City of Brooks, Town of Bassano, Villages of Duchess and Rosemary, Siksika Nation and the County of Newell (Bow City, Cassils, Gem, Millicent, Patricia, Rainier, Rolling Hills, Scandia and Tilley).
Criteria for the grant include:
-Helping with the creation of a brand new event
-Enhancing current events by bringing in new experiences and/or new entertainment
-Current events expanding their hours significantly (ex. moving from a one-day to two-day event)
"The goal of this fund is to help increase the number of events held, creating more sustainable organizations and enhancing the image of the Newell region as a positive and attractive tourism destination," she said.
The deadline for  applications is Feb. 28 and the application form as well as a list of fund guidelines can be found on the VisitNewell website  or contact the NRTA at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 403-794-2262.
