It has been determined that there is a total of five residences which have been destroyed or heavily damaged by fire during yesterday's wind-aided grassfire near Nanton.

In addition there were at least seven outbuildings of varying sizes which were also heavily damaged or destroyed. Several parked vehicles were also damaged or destroyed.

The fire is considered at this time to be extinguished.

As noted in a prior release there were no injuries to residents and only one female person was taken to hospital for minor treatment of breathing difficulties.

As this is known to have started from a power line which came down in the high winds there will be no continuing RCMP investigation.

RCMP and fire units from five fire departments worked to contain the large Jan. 4 fire which resulted from a downed power line.  The fire started just south of the townsite of Nanton and eventually was contained after burning through an area approximately 60 sq kilometers.

There were at least three residences burned to some degree and more structures are being checked at this time. Although the fire is considered as contained at this time, there continues to be work done by the fire units to ensure there are no further flareups.

No injures resulted from the fire, although one female individual has some breathing difficulties and was treated.

Fire departments from High River, Okotoks, Stavely, Vulcan and Nanton attended this fire.
