An accident between a car and a semi hauling condensate caused an explosion and fire while killing the car’s driver.

On May 18th, at 4:50 p.m. the Hanna RCMP were dispatched to a serious, two vehicle head-on collision just west of Secondary Highway 855 on Highwy 9.  Hanna Fire and Emergency Services also attended the scene.
As a result of the investigation, it is believed that a Red Chevrolet Aveo, driven by a lone occupant, was traveling Westbound when it collided head on with an eastbound fully loaded Super B that was hauling condensate.
Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch and the semi burst into flames.  Both vehicles sustained extensive fire damage.
The driver of the tractor trailer unit was able to escape from his vehicle prior to it bursting into flames. The driver of the Chevrolet Aveo was pronounced dead on scene.
Highway 9 was shut down for approximately five hours while police investigated the collision.
The collision is still under investigation.  No charges have been laid at this time.  The name of the deceased is not being released pending positive notification to the next of kin.
