Due to elevated levels of fecal coliforms currently present in the water of the Milk River at Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park (located within the South Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS)), AHS is advising the public not to swim or wade in the Milk River at this location, effective July 14.

The public is also advised not to drink this untreated lake water at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal coliforms, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Elevated levels of fecal coliforms were detected via testing of the river water, at this beach location. At current levels, skin, ear and eye infections may result from contact with the water from the Milk River, where it flows through Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park .
AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
