The saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” has proven true for a Nanton man and his Calgary girlfriend.

Steve McMasters has been known to do “different” Christmas cards for the past six years as the “single guy” in his family.
In March 2016, Alyssa Briggs saw McMasters’ 2015 Christmas card on a friend’s fridge and instantly wanted to meet him. She appreciated the guts he had to do those types of photos for a Christmas card and felt their personalities matched.
Briggs contacted McMasters and they went on a few dates. When it came to Christmas, they decided to surprise everyone and do a Christmas card together for 2016.
“We are both funny and charming and extremely good looking. We just hit it off really well,” adds McMasters.
McMasters always knew he would find the right girl if she was willing to do a Christmas card with him.
“I’ve been doing these cards for six years and I finally found the right girl to be in them with me,” he adds.
McMasters was born and raised in Nanton and says there’s no place like home.
He currently works for an oilfield company based out of Nanton.
McMasters also is involved with the Nanton Palominos senior hockey team and is a member of the Nanton Promoters. He loves his community and being involved.
Lori Loree, who owns Loree Photography, is a photographer based in Nanton who has been working with McMasters for the past four years to take his Christmas card photographs.
Loree was once a journalist by trade. About 10 years ago, she became a photojournalist and expanded into other types of photography about seven years ago when she shot her first wedding. It was four years ago, she decided to become a full-time photographer.
From the first shoot, Loree know she was going to love doing this style of work with McMasters.
“I love that we can be creative and come up with fun ideas that make people smile,” says Loree.
Every year, she has loved photographing McMasters for his Christmas cards and working on  different themes with him. She says this year was the best, because it was the first year photographing with Briggs who made it even better. The two complement each other so well, it made Loree’s job easy.
“It’s fun because I love working with Steve. This year was even better, because of Alyssa. She is Steve’s equal and made the shoot that much more fun. They came up with a lot of their own poses and I just stood back and captured what makes them amazing,” she explains.
Loree is always up for something different and wasn’t intimidated by McMasters’ requests.
“I think anything that is a little off the wall and fun is a great style.
As a career photographer, I’m always photographing for what my clients want. This shoot allows me to photograph for me and Steve and just have fun,” adds Loree.
More than 350 people receive McMasters Christmas card every year, and Loree loves knowing that people are laughing in post offices across Alberta when they open up his envelope. People look forward to his card every year to see the theme.
Family and friends had asked McMasters if Briggs was going to be in the 2016 Christmas card. He told them she’s not ready. Secretly, Briggs was already in the shoot with McMasters. The couple says when family and friends received their Christmas cards they were excited and absolutely loved them.
He adds these photos represent himself and Briggs as a couple and show their fun-loving personalities.
“These photos proudly display both of our personalities and our sense of humour.”
McMasters and Briggs are already thinking about what to do for their 2017 Christmas card.
