Families and friends are once again looking forward to the Fort Macleod Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 26. The 35th annual Fort Macleod Santa Claus Parade will take place at 11 a.m. on historic Main Street.

Kristi Edwards, parade co-ordinator, says planning has gone well for the parade this year.
Like every year, there’s always a new theme for the parade and this year the theme is ‘Sleigh Bells Ringing’.
As of Nov. 13, there were 45 entries for the parade with more coming in each day.
Also taking place for the weekend events is Moonlight Madness on the evening of Nov. 25 with the Town serving complimentary beef on a bun 6-7 p.m.
The community Christmas tree lighting is at 6:30 p.m. and there will be wagon rides and caroling around the fires on Main Street until 9 p.m.
Edwards says many of the businesses will be open late offering treats and specials.
There will be several craft sales in the town throughout the weekend and the Allied Arts is hosting one at the community hall. It starts on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. It also takes place Nov. 26 until 4 p.m.
There will be a free family movie — The Polar Express — at the Empress Theatre Nov. 26 at 2 p.m.
As well the Rotary Club will host its live auction at the Fort Macleod Auction Market at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26.
For most, including Edwards, the Santa Claus Parade and weekend festivities beloved in Fort Macleod. It kicks off the Christmas season in the community.
“This is my favourite day in Fort Macleod. I love the spirit of Christmas that it brings and the opportunity to share our small town with the surrounding areas and to celebrate all that we have to offer here,” says Edwards.
Like always, Edwards says there’s always room for more volunteers as there are many jobs to do and many hands make light work. They’re always looking for more sponsorship as well.
“This year has been tough, because we are in hard economic times and some businesses who have donated in the past are unable to donate this year.
We can also always use donations in the ‘bucket brigade’ buckets as the volunteers walk the parade route and collect donations to carry on this great tradition in our community.”
Edwards says they need people to help marshall the parade entries, people to carry banners in the parade, people to help collect donations, and groups who are willing and able to feed the bands that come and participate each year. As well, they need people to watch the parade and cheer on everyone.
