Severe thunderstorm warning issued

A severe thunderstorm warning for the County of Newell near Tilley, Rolling Hills and Patricia is in effect.



At 4:40 p.m. radar indicated a severe thunderstorm 10 kilometres west of Drumheller. This thunderstorm is moving to the southeast at 35 km/h and has produced quarter sized hail and strong wind gusts.


Another severe thunderstorm is located 15 kilometres south southeast of Brooks. This thunderstorm is moving to the southeast at 30 km/h and has the potential to produce large hail and strong wind gusts.


This is a warning severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring in these regions.


An unstable airmass remains over Central Alberta.


If these storms develop, the main threats are large hail, heavy downpours and strong winds.


There is also a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Medicine Hat, Bow Island and Suffield.
