Hopes to help children who have been stricken with a life-threatening illness is on track.

A ride on the Empress steam train seemed to be enjoyed by all as it rolled on through Brooks.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Pacific Railway are co-hosting a fundraiser who will tug at the romantics who enjoy riding the rails.
CP's 2816 Empress Steam Train is rolling through western Canada and made stops in Swift Current and Maple Creek June 11. The June 11 Maple Creek to Medicine Hat trip was sold out.
Medicine Hat to Brooks ran into a few problems as there was heavier than expected commercial railway traffic delaying the arrival of the Brooks train by well over an hour.
Even so, Jason Evanson of the Alberta and Northwest Territories chapter of Children's Wish was happy with the response in the area.
"For some, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity," explained Evanson as he was busily selling tickets.
140 passengers made the trek from Medicine Hat to Brooks and another 35 were leaving from Brooks onto Calgary.
This is the second year for the promotion. There was no word on how much money was raised to date this year. Last year, $50,000 was raised.
