RCMP have now laid charges in respect to an investigation into animal cruelty in the  East Coulee area.

John Barry Graham, 54, of Drumheller has been charged with: Section 446 of the Criminal Code, Causing Damage or Injury to Animals; Section 127, Criminal Code, Disobeying a court order, Section 180(1) of the Criminal Code, Common Nuisance, and two charges under the Animal Protection Act. Section 2, Causing Animals to be in Distress.

His first court date has been set for June 17th, 2011 at Drumheller Provincial Court.

Some of the animals which were seized have been moved to a rural location near Brooks as this is a better location for their health. A few of the animals remain at a livestock handling facility at Brooks as the rural location would not be suitable for their transfer.  All of the animals remain under the care of a certified veterinarian.

The final disposition of these animals will be decided by the court. This investigation is conducted jointly by the RCMP as well as the ASPCA.
