More grain samples needed to assess crop quality

(CNW) Western Canadian producers have until October 15 to sign up for this year's Harvest Sample Program.

 

Producers that register and send us their grain samples will get a free, unofficial grade and quality information to help them market their grain.
"Producers who send us their grain samples are helping us assess the quality of this year's harvest. We share this important data with customers to show them that Canadian grain is their best choice for consistent quality," said Elwin Hermanson, Chief Commissioner.
Samples received
We have received over 2250 grain samples this year, but we always need more. The more samples received, the more accurately we are able to evaluate the quality of the 2012 harvest.
To date, from Western Canada we have received:
Wheat samples
    •    1130 Canada Western Red Spring Wheat
    •    104 Canada Western Red Winter Wheat
    •    350 Canada Western Amber Durum Wheat
Oilseed samples
    •    450 Canada Napus Canola
Pulse samples
    •    106 Canada Lentils
    •    117 Canada Peas
Quality information for producers
Even if you have a good idea about the quality of your grain, by sending in your sample, you'll also be able to access detailed information, such as:
    •    Protein content on cereal grains and pulses

    •    Oil, protein and chlorophyll content for canola

    •    Oil and protein content and iodine value for flaxseed
Easy to participate
Participating in the Harvest Sample Program is easy and starts with signing up to receive your free kit, which includes postage-paid envelopes and instructions for sending in your sample. Our web site offers a step-by-step video showing you how easy it is to send in your grain sample.
Producers who send in a sample are also eligible to win prizes, and the earlier you send in your samples, the greater your chances of winning.
