On January 25, at he Living Sky Casino’s Sky Centre in Swift Current, an important seminar called Ag Outlook will take place.

Enjoy keynote speakers and break out sessions on the world economic outlook, cattle outlook, tax issues facing ag producers, farm succession planning, grain commodities outlook, wealth management, insurance and risk mitigation, and positive psychology for team building.
Bill Wiebe will be covering three main scenarios many farmers in our region are finding beneficial when it comes to transitioning wisely.
1. If your current farm corporation has built up significant cash that will put you offside for various tax rules,  and you own the farm land personally then starting up a new corporation (Landco) to buy the farm land may be a solution.  This strategy could work well for families with farming and non-farming children as the Landco can be willed to either.
2. Selling or buying shares of a corporation that owns farm land. If you have a corporation in place that owns land with the tax cost being lower than the current value, selling the shares of the company means the buyer can still get the land with the higher tax cost while the seller can utilize the capital gain deduction.
3. Freezing the value of a farm Corporation so farming children can begin earning equity gives them the opportunity to start earning some of the growth in the value of the farm corporation but also allows you to keep the current equity to financially prepare for retirement.
