DuPont Pioneer opens new corn facility

DuPont Pioneer opened a new facility in the County of Lethbridge, July 8 that will work to develop ultra-early maturity corn hybrids. As well, the facility will be used to develop canola hybrids and soybean varieties for the area.

 Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), CANTERRA SEEDS, and the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) announce a partnership July 15 aimed at combining the strengths of producers, along with the public and private sectors, to create improved Canada Prairie Spring Red (CPSR) wheat varieties for farmers.

On July 6, BMO Bank of Montreal and the Calgary Stampede recognized 17 southern Alberta families who best represent the values of the family farmer to our society. Celebrating its 19th anniversary, the BMO Farm Family Awards were created to promote a renewed urban-rural relationship and focus on recognizing the contribution to the enhancement of quality of life as a family unit.

The Cactus Country region’s 4-H Beef Show and Sale took place June 13 at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Field House.
Sixty-seven competitors took part from clubs including Bindloss, Borderland, Irvine, Medicine Hat, and Seven Persons.

Registration open for women’s grazing school

Registration is open for the 40-some spots available for this year’s annual Southern Alberta Grazing School for Women. This is the 12th year for this event which draws participants from all over southern Alberta.

They hail from many nations and relatively few of the youngsters have lived on a farm.
