Wednesday's weather is pure ugliness

Written by

Winter is here. If it isn't yet, it will be hitting with a vengeance very soon. Weather warnings are in effect for southern Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan. Highway conditions are already bad, including Swift Current which doesn't have a weather warning issued yet. Highways around Brooks and Bassano are considered poor. Milk River RCMP is advising that travel on Highway 4 of Lethbridge to the Coutts border is not recommended. There is blowing snow, high winds and icy patches are making dangerous driving conditions. If you have to travel please drive slow and exercise caution. As well, the Lethbridge RCMP & Sheriff Integrated Traffic Unit(ITU) wish to advise the motoring public of the winter storm passing through  Southern Alberta (see Environment Canada website).  Roads are currently snow and ice covered with blowing snow and are expected to deteriorate further before improving. If travel is necessary, motorists are encouraged to slow down, wear seatbelts, give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination and to check road conditions through web sites such as AMA.

‘30-foot wall of fire’ ravages County of Warner

In the midst of miles and miles of charred trees, grass and stubble, two farm houses in the County of Warner sit unscathed; an island surrounded by a sea of angry black.
It’s like a Christmas miracle, if such it can be called when thousands of acres of farmland and prairie are burned bare from a ferocious fire that swept across the south, pushed by powerful winds that uprooted trees and knocked over semi trucks.
