Cdn. Wheat Research Coalition is formed

On. Aug. 22, the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC), the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask Wheat) and the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association (MWBGA) announced the formation of the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition (CWRC), a federal not-for-profit corporation that will facilitate long-term investments aimed at improving profitability and competitiveness for western Canadian wheat farmers.

Teen drowns in Lake Newell

On Aug. 29, at approximately 3:44 p.m., Brooks RCMP, along with the Brooks Fire Department and Alberta Health Services EMS, were dispatched to Kinbrook Island Provincial Park for a possible drowning at the main beach of Lake Newell. 

On July 19, the County of Newell issued a “Fire Restriction” for the entire County. That Fire Restriction is still in effect and most likely will remain in effect for some time.

Stirling hosts 10th Annual Fall Festival Sept. 10

The official opening of a new local brewery within Lundbreck, called Oldman River Brewing, took place July 29.
