STARS training flight to Swift Current with new helicopter, Oct. 1, 2014

Written by

STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) carried out a training flight to Swift Current on Oct. 1, 2014 with its new AW139 helicopter. It landed at the Cypress Regional Hospital and members of the flight and medical crew conducted interviews with the local media. The AW139 is larger than the existing BK117 helicopters used by STARS in Saskatchewan. It will enhance the service provided by STARS across the province due to faster flying times, a longer range, a larger medical interior and powerful lift capacity. The AW139, which was provided by PotashCorp, will operate out of Saskatoon. The total cost of the new helicopter was approximately $16 million, including $14 million for the helicopter and $2 million for the medical interiors.
