Tour of new joint use schools in Swift Current, Sept. 6, 2014

The Chinook School Division and  Holy Trinity Catholic School Division hosted a VIP and media tour of the new École Centennial School and All Saints Catholic School in Swift Current on Sept. 6. The event started in the All Saints Catholic School with a guided tour by Principal Lenni Zanidean. The piazza at the main entrance of the school includes a striking mural and a chapel. The school's design has been guided by input from students, and classrooms, called learning studios, have removable garage door style walls that can be opened up to create open learning areas. Earthy tones of brown, green, orange and yellow dominate the colour scheme of this new pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. The tour included a visit to the common areas shared between the two schools, including the library, music room, industrial arts class and a daycare. École Centennial School Principal Bryan Braun provided a tour of the new dual track pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 public school for all French immersion in Swift Current as well as English programming for students north of the Trans-Canada Highway. Shades of blue are the dominant design colour for the school and the building has been designed to provide plenty of natural light and collaborative learning spaces. It includes open concept washroom spaces for students to make supervision easier and to reduce the potential of bullying in these areas. In addition to the gymnasium with exercise equipment on a mezzanine, there is a large carrefour (the French word for marketplace or public square) where assembly meetings and other events can take place.
