A Canadian Pacific Railway freight train derailed on Thursday night at approximately 7:30 p.m.. The incident happened about one kilometre east of Waldeck on a section of railway line that runs parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway. More than 30 cars went off the track, but there were no injuries or leaks of material. The Waldeck area was hit by strong winds and heavy rain at the time of the incident. According to Canadian Pacific Railway spokesperson Salem Woodrow, in a statement to Canadian Press, the derailment was caused by strong plow winds. Traffic along a two-kilometre stretch of the highway was reduced to a single lane on Friday morning as work crews started the cleanup.
