Written by

The 100th anniversary celebration for the William Ball blacksmith shop at Doc's Town Heritage Village in Swift Current took place on Aug. 3. William (Billie) Ball started his blacksmith shop in Valjean, Saskatchewan, in 1914 and his son Bob donated the blacksmith shop to Doc's Town in 1981 in memory of his father. William's grandson Dennis attended the 100th anniversary celebration for the shop. The afternoon celebration included a brief program where Dennis spoke about the building and his memories. Five blacksmiths participated in a hammer-in to demonstrate their skills. They are Stephen Philp, Aird Romich and Aaron Schultz from Swift Current, Mike Dickie from Pennant, and Don Fox from Moose Jaw.
