Relay for Life in Swift Current, June 1, 2013

Written by

The 2013 Relay for Life in Swift Current raised $71,638.57 for the fight against cancer. The event took place at Riverside Park, starting at 7 p.m. and continuing throughout the night as teams walked around the track. This year's guest speaker was Regina resident Dionne Warner, who is an eight times cancer survivor. A total of 105 survivors, all in yellow t-shirts, participated in the opening ceremonies along with the members of 19 teams. Shoulders-up for a Cure team members Bobby Moore and Brad Torry, who have been growing their facial hair since December, raised just over $5,500. Herb Butz shaved their beards at Relay for Life. Seven-year-old Amanda Blohm made a donation of $325.65 to Relay for Life. She raised the money by asking her friends for a donation towards Relay for Life instead of a birthday gift. During the luminary ceremony a total of 1,000 luminaries were lit to remember loved ones who  lost the battle against cancer.
