Swift Current 57's vs Regina Red Sox, Aug. 1, 2018

The Swift Current 57’s was eliminated by the Regina Red Sox in the first round of the 2018 Western Major Baseball League playoffs. The 57’s finished second in the Eastern division during the regular season with a 28-20 record while the Red Sox was third with a 26-21 record. The initial two games of the best of five playoff series took place in Swift Current. The Red Sox won the first game 9-6 on July 31, but the 57’s tied the series with a 7-5 win on Aug. 1. The Red Sox won the next two games in Regina to win the series 3-1, but both games were nail biters. In the Aug. 2 game the 57’s battled back from a 7-0 deficit after the fourth inning to have a 9-7 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, when the Red Sox forced an extra innings with a two-run home run, and then scored a run to win 10-9. In the Aug. 3 game the 57’s scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, but the Red Sox clinched the series with a run to win 4-3. Regina is playing against Weyburn in the Eastern division final while Edmonton and Medicine Hat are playing in the Western division final.
