Soapbox racing in Swift Current, June 17, 2018

Soapbox racers continued a long-time Father's Day tradition in Swift Current when they raced downhill along Central Avenue North in their colourful race cars, June 17. There were 23 participants in the 36th annual Father's Day Soapbox Race, which was hosted by the Swift Current Soapbox Racing Association. Most of the racers were local, and the two out of town drivers came from Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw. Below are the race results:

Senior A side: 1st Aiden Jahnke, 2nd Jacob Dickson, 3rd Joshua Laverdiere, 4th Serenity Laverdiere.

Senior B side: 1st Summer Rose (Medicine Hat), 2nd Jonas Shultz, 3rd Ayden Snyder, 4th Nicole Pelletier.

Junior A side: 1st Kaleb Snyder, 2nd Jake Wiebe, 3rd Ethan Hall, 4th Anahra Henderson.

Junior B side: 1st Elliot Jahnke, 2nd Violet Saretsky, 3rd Owen Schultz, 4th Zayden Dussault.

Sportsmanship winners: Junior – Danica Finlay (Moose Jaw), Senior – Daeten Ratzlaff.

Grease Monkey (Junior) and Wrench Master (Senior) trophies were awarded to racers who were the most hands-on with their cars, either with breakdowns or building the cars. The Grease Monkey trophy winner is Waylan Ratzlaff and the Wrench Master trophy recipient is Colten Klassen.
