The 2nd annual Swift Current Pride Week was kicked off with a flag raising ceremony on Market Square and a reception at the nearby Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre office, June 4. The speakers at the event were Southwest Saskatchewan Pride Board Chair Andrea McCrimmon, Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault and David Camarador of the Chinook School Division's Gay Straight Alliance. That evening an official proclamation at a regular City council meeting declared the week of June 3-9 as Swift Current Pride Week. Various events have been scheduled during the week, including a Pride family barbecue at Market Square on June 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a performance by singer-songwriter Megan Nash. This event will include a Pride march in the downtown area at noon. There will be a Pride drag show and dance at the Lyric Theatre on June 9, starting at 9 p.m. More details about Swift Current Pride Week are available on the Southwest Saskatchewan Pride website or Facebook page.
