30th annual Southwest Crisis Services Duck Derby, June 3, 2018

Written by

The 30th annual Southwest Crisis Services Duck Derby took place at Riverside Park in Swift Current on June 3 in conjunction with Innovation Credit Union's annual Picnic in the Park. The community showed their support for the duck derby and 1,355 numbered plastic ducks were dropped into the creek to float down to the finish line at Lee Lam bridge. The fastest duck belonged to Joanne Meyer. The second to sixth place winners were Jeremy Widdup, Patsy Williams, Lisa Willows, Lori Gaunt, and Tina Bonk. This is the main fundraiser of the year for Southwest Crisis Services and the event raised $12,595. The funds will be used to support Southwest Crisis Services programs and services, including an emergency safe shelter and housing support for women and children at risk of or experiencing abuse, a 24/7 crisis helpline, individual and couple supportive counselling, group empowerment programs, and prevention education workshops and events.
