Bike safety event in Swift Current, May 16, 2018

Young cyclists had an opportunity to learn more about safe cycling practices in a fun way during the City of Swift Current’s annual bicycle safety event at ACT Park, May 16. The City hosted the event in partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Bright Beginnings Family Centre. Sponsorship and volunteer support from various local organizations contributed towards a successful event. Tansi and Ravi, the two mascots of the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games, made a surprise visit to the event  A bike safety course has been painted on the surface of the outdoor rink at the park. There is a mock street with crosswalks and stop signs as well as a figure eight, obstacles and a diminishing clearance activity. The course assists cyclists to practise their skills and to gain confidence for riding in an urban environment. There are bike safety courses at all five outdoor rinks in Swift Current for families to use at any time during the summer. Swift Current is the first community in the province to have these bike safety courses available for residents.
