Award-winning Regina writer Connie Gault was the featured author at the final event in the 2017-18 Write Out Loud series at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current, May 16. She spoke about and read from her most recent novel A Beauty, which was longlisted for the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize and won the book of the year and fiction awards at the 2016 Saskatchewan Book Awards. A distinctive feature of her work is the attention given to female characters and her interest in rural Saskatchewan life. The event started with a presentation by local artist Carolynn Anctil. She is a watercolour illustrator and photographer who also shares her creative writing through a storytelling project, Tin Rooster Farm Notes. Subscribers receive a monthly handwritten letter from her in which she shares her thoughts about life on a prairie farm. The Write Out Loud series showcases Canadian authors and local writing talent to literary fans. The line-up for the 2018-19 series was announced at the event. It will include a diverse and interesting group of authors, starting with gardening expert and author Lyndon Penner on Sept. 19.
