Mother Earth run/walk in Swift Current, May 12, 2018

Written by

The 3rd annual Prpick Boss Mother Earth run/walk took place along the scenic Chinook Parkway in Swift Current, May 12. There were 73 participants in the event, which started and finished at Elmwood Park. Participants could run or walk over distances of 10, 5, two or one kilometre. Métis elder Cecile Blanke presented a prayer to Mother Earth in the Michif language before the start of the run/walk. This year's event was held in memory of Swift Current resident Anthea Loran, who passed away in March. Loran was a founding member of the Friends of the Walkway, a group of volunteers that take care of different garden areas along the Chinook Pathway. She was an active volunteer in the community and she was a recipient of the 2015 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Her daughter-in-law, Donna Loran, represented the Loran family at the event and also participated in the run/walk. A portion of the race registration funds will be donated to the Southwest Homes residential and small business recycling pick-up program.
