The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre hosted a special Cooking Culture event to celebrate women on International Women's Day, March 8. Cooking Culture is a regular cultural cuisine exchange held by the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre and hosted at the St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Swift Current. This event on International Women's Day also included a program with keynote speakers and a roundtable discussion after the meal. Home cooks from China, India and the Philippines prepared the evening's meal. The menu included chicken curry by Malavika Nangelil-Rejimon, and halal chicken bryani by Yasmeen Anjum. Joy Tian prepared sweet and sour shrimp, and Rechilda Cruz made pork adobo. Aileen Barraca prepared rice cake dessert and Southwest Crisis Services provided assorted cakes. The emcee for the evening was Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre Executive Director Icasiana de Gala. The two keynote speakers at the event were Mahnaz Robertson, who has been an account manager at Innovation Credit Union for 21 years, and Cindy Lowe, a business teacher at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.
