Swift Current Comprehensive High School hosts SHSAA regional wrestling championships, March 3, 2018

Swift Current Comprehensive High School (SCCHS) hosted the 2018 Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) regional wrestling championships, March 3. The event was attended by 167 wrestlers from 27 schools. The Swift Current team finished third in the overall point standings behind Prince Albert's St. Mary High School in first place and with Carlton Comprehensive High School from Prince Albert in second place. Five wrestlers from Swift Current Comprehensive High School placed in the top four of their weight class to advance to the SHSAA provincial wrestling championships in Saskatoon on March 9 and 10. Aleah Nickel won her initial two bouts with a technical fall and the first place match with a fall in the 60 kg weight class to claim gold. Sebastien Marchand won all three his bouts in the 73 kg weight class with a technical fall to finish first. Luke Nelson won both bouts in the 65 kg weight class with a technical fall to claim first place. Colt Cornelson was the only competitor in the 53 kg weight class for males and advanced to provincials. Emmett Guider won silver in the 77 kg weight class. He was undefeated after three bouts and won each time with a fall, but he lost the first place match with a fall against Conley McLeod of St Mary High School. Swift Current's Josh Keller finished third in the 82 kg weight class to advance to provincials.
