Swift Current SPCA Celebrity Dog Pound fundraising event, Feb. 15, 2018

Written by

The Swift Current SPCA's annual appeal to the community kicked off on Feb. 15 with a fun event to make residents aware of the fundraising campaign. Three local celebrities were impounded at the shelter during the Celebrity Dog Pound event and they had to raise at least $18 from 18 people before they were released. They received the same treatment as other strays, and got a bowl of food, their photos were taken, and they were issued with a dog tag. The Celebrity Dog Pound participants were Dan Johnson of Innovation Credit Union, Justina Sather of Living Sky Casino and Karla Wiens (pictured) of the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce. They helped the SPCA to raise over $3,300 with the event. The SPCA's $18-for-'18 appeal is asking Swift Current area residents to consider a donation of $18 or more to the animal shelter during 2018. The Swift Current SPCA is a non-profit organization that relies on community support for most of its operational costs. The shelter costs more than $25,000 per month to operate and provided care to more than 350 pets in 2017. It is a non-kill animal shelter that is staffed 365 days a year to provide shelter, food and care to domestic pets. Donations to the $18-for-'18 appeal can be mailed to the Swift Current SPCA at Box 1163, Swift Current, S9H 3X3 or dropped off at the shelter at 2101 Knight Crescent or the SPCA Used Book Store at 37 1st Ave NE. Donations can also be made online at the SPCA website www.spcaswiftcurrent.com. Donations of $10 or more are tax-receipted.
