The Swift Current Broncos dropped only one game during a busy three-game weekend. Their weekend started with a road trip to Brandon on Jan. 5, where they lost 3-2 in overtime to the Wheat Kings, with Matteo Gennaro scoring both goals. The Broncos defended home ice for the rest of the weekend, starting with a 4-2 win against the Regina Pats, Jan. 6. Gennaro again scored twice while Kaden Elder was responsible for the other two goals. The Broncos played an afternoon game on Jan. 7, when they dismissed the Red Deer Rebels 5-1. Gennaro scored another two goals for a total of six goals and one assist in three days. Two of the Broncos players who have returned from playing at the World Juniors scored the other goals. Aleksi Heponiemi gave the team an early lead with a power play goal and defenceman Artyom Minulin scored two power play goals. The Broncos play their next home game against the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday, Jan. 12. Thereafter they will be away on a two-week U.S. road trip.
