Third annual Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) Concert in the Sky, Nov. 10, 2017

Written by

The 3rd annual Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) Concert in the Sky took place at the Living Sky Casino event centre on Nov. 10 to raise funds for Dorie's House. The performers at the event were Swift Current singer-songwriter Vanessa Gauvin and Saskatoon-based alternative rock band League of Wolves. The concert raised about $3,000 for Dorie’s House, an eight-bed emergency shelter for youth between the ages of 14 and 17 who are homeless or at risk of being homeless in southwest Saskatchewan. It opened in January, but due to a lack of secure funding the shelter doors closed temporarily in early October. The Southwest YES board of directors is continuing discussions with stakeholders in an effort to re-open the shelter. In the meantime fundraising activities in support of Dorie's House will continue. Southwest YES board members are selling 50/50 tickets for a draw that will take place on Dec. 19. The 14th annual Canadian Country Christmas concert, which will take place at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current on Dec. 5, will also be a fundraiser for Dorie's House. The concert will feature performances by notable country musicians Sean Hogan, Jay Semko and Thomas Wade. Tickets are available at Pharmasave in Swift Current and Houston Pizza.
