Hazlet School presentation at Chinook School Division board meeting, Nov. 6, 2017

Written by

A delegation of staff and students from Hazlet School made a presentation about project based learning (PBL) at a regular meeting of the Chinook School Division's board of education, Nov. 6. Principal Kristy Sletten and teacher Kerri Keenleyside provided an overview of the PBL initiative, which was introduced to increase student engagement and to help them to become self-directed and resilient learners as well as problem-solvers. The PBL initiative has helped students to become more engaged in their other classroom activities and it has provided students with a voice and a choice in their learning. Students spoke about the different PBL activities they have engaged in. The students who made presentations to the board meeting are Annika Reichenbach and Sennaray Garven (cooking/baking), Ana Julia Becerra Lara (scrapbooking), Mariana Mojica and Amani Sletten (cosmetology), Davin Garven and Tavis Brown (robotics), Sonja Gall (furniture refurbishing), as well as Sarah McNary and Noah Hughes (construction).
