Written by

Swift Current was one of six Canadian host cities for the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia series between regional league teams of Canadian national junior team candidates and the Russian national junior team. The second of two games featuring players from the Western Hockey League (WHL) took place at the Innovation Credit Union i-plex in Swift Current, Nov. 7. The WHL team had a convincing 7-0 win in the first game in Moose Jaw, Nov. 6. They looked set to repeat that performance in Swift Current with a 3-0 lead in the second period, but the Russians scored four unanswered goals to win the game. The next two games will take place in Ontario and the series will conclude with games in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Three members of the Swift Current Broncos team played in the series. Colby Sissons and Tyler Steenbergen skated for the WHL team and Artyom Minulin is a member of the Russian team. Shaunavon's Kole Lind of the Kelowna Rockets also played for the WHL team.
