The 5th annual Young Ranchman’s All Breeds Livestock Show took place in Swift Current, Aug. 31 to Sept. 3. The event started on Aug. 31 with the public speaking competition in the training centre at the Pattison Agriculture dealership. The remaining activities over the next three days took place at Kinetic Exhibition Park. The event drew participants from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. There were 145 registered participants and 179 class entries, while 197 head of cattle were stalled in the barns for the event. Young Ranchman's is aimed at youth up to the age of 21 years with an interest in livestock and agriculture. It provides them with an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge through showmanship and team grooming competitions. They can also show their creativity by submitting entries for the art and photography contests, and there are also educational workshops. The show includes the Little Ranchers program with learning opportunities in a fun environment for children eight years and younger. They learned about livestock and farm safety, and this year they also received information about the beef production chain. The Southwest Classic Steer Show, an open entry prospect steer show, also took place during the weekend, and there was a conformation show for different breed classes on the final day of the event.
