The Western Major Baseball League's 2017 season got underway on June 1. The Swift Current 57's will not only be defending their 2016 championship title, but the team will be doing it while playing in their new colours and under a new name. The Swift Current 57's recognized Swift Current athletes who captured provincial or league titles during the past year during a pre-game ceremony at the Night of Champions season opener, June 1. The 57's had a solid start by winning all three home games. They opened the season with a 3-2 win against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Returning pitcher Bobby St. Pierre gave the home team the win with five strikeouts, two hits and one unearned run over six innings. The 57's also won two games against the Melville Millionaires. Another solid pitching effort resulted in a 4-1 win for the Swift Current team on June 3, and the 57's batters exploded in the June 4 game to defeat the visitors 13-1, with Blake Adams responsible for five RBI's.
